The Girl He Likes

(From Ella's Perspective)

"Where are you going?" Dad asked the next morning after breakfast. I was wearing one of Leandro's shirts and jeans.

I had never seen anyone wearing something like that here. Women wore dresses all the time and men wore normal shackles, not jeans. It was like I was witnessing a historical drama right in real life.

Some people called me odd for wearing them. But there was nothing I could do. I wore what was comfortable for me, not what others expected me to wear.

"I am going out with Jasper. He said he will give me books to read," I said.

"Why do you have to go out for that?" Dad asked.

"She doesn't have any work to do anymore. That's why I said it's better to go out for a bit," Jasper said, nodding all knowingly.

"It's not a bad idea. But don't let her wander around on her own," Dad said. "And Ella, don't get into a fight."

"Who would I get into a fight with? A book?" I rolled my eyes.
