The Knock On The Window

(From Ella's Perspective)

"Thanks for the nightgowns," I said as I sat down in a chair.

Jasper did not say anything for a while, just observed me for some reason. Then he opened his mouth after a long pause, "... There is no need to thank me. It's fine."

The food was delicious as always. We were served beef and mushrooms with mashed potatoes and chicken pot pie. Though I was not much hungry, I tried everything and had quite a lot because the food was my weakness.

During dinner, Jasper did not say anything much unlike usual. He usually asked me a lot of things, but this time, he was not even saying a single thing. It was strange. But it did not matter. Rather, I enjoyed the silence.

That night, I slept quite peacefully. Perhaps it was because the room was very quiet and the weather was cold. The sound of the rain felt very pleasant as well and it helped me with my sleep.
