Chapter 34: Koni's voice

It was about time we rested. So the boys which include the kids dad and Loki sat down then I did as well. "How are you boys doing? Are you doing ok?" Kane looked and Koni. "We are fine mom. Its just a long walk." "I know kids. If you get tired let us know. Me and your father can carry you in our wolf forms." "No its ok mom. We can deal. If anything Koni will need help." "I'll carry the boy." Said Dad. "Ok Dad when the time is needed thanks ahead of time." After we rested it was time to get up again.

We rested quite a few times and finally got there. "Here we are kids. The Village I went to when I was sick." He told them he was sick so it didn't scare the kids. "OK I will let your family head over to the doc. I'm going to see the family." "Ok dad stay safe." "Oh and stop by when you are done ok?" "Yes dad we will." So we headed off to the doc and waited.

A few minutes later the doc came in. "Hello Akela. How are you?" "Oh I'm fine. Your remember my husband Loki." "Yes nice to see you again young man. So you are here to look at the little man you brought in right? Which one is he?" I patted Koni's head. "Ok lets take a look at you." He did the same thing the other doc did and felt around then had him open his mouth. "I see. The other doc sent me a letter about him. I felt what he did." "Can you help him sir?" "Well I might be able to freeze off some of the bumps but no guarantee it will help his voice. If he does talk it will be a little raspy. After I do this the important thing is to have him rest. What also might help is to have him drink supper cold stuff to help with the shrinking of the bumps." "Ok how are you going to do that?" I asked. "Well he will be asleep of course. I have a tool that goes down in the throat of course I will be able to see what I am doing. We are more equipped than other villages." "How long will this take?" "Oh it depending on if it has any complications it should take an hour. If it has complications maybe a little longer." "Ok then. Koni listen to the doctor ok? It will be all right." I saw Koni was a little scared. I hugged his little head. Then Loki went over. "Its ok Son. You'll be ok all right? Trust me I've been worse." "He really has Koni. To the point I worried if he was going to live." Then Kane came over. "Ok Brother. Be good and come back to us ok? We are all going to look after you. So you have to make it all right?" Koni nodded in tears. Then we group hugged him. "Its ok brother." Then I hugged and kissed him and we stayed there til they put him under and then we went to the waiting room.

Time passed by and an hour finally passed. The operating light finally went off. The surgeon came out and said, "The surgery went very well. We got a lot more bumps off then we thought. He still has a few with a eating and drinking cold stuff it should help get the rest of the bumps to go. Until then he should be able to talk but he shouldn't talk much until the swelling goes down." "OK thank you doctor. When can he come home?" "Oh lets give him a couple of days here to be safe. You 3 can stay at my guest house." "Thank you sir." Then we waited until he finished then he guided us to the guest house. "OK here we are. There are 2 rooms. Get some rest. Oh and I forgot to ask Akela. How did your delivery go?" "Oh thanks for asking. It went good. I had a little girl. I named her Zuri Grace." "Oh I'm glad you both are healthy. I hope to meet her someday." "Yeah maybe." Then he left back to his work.

The doctor checked on Koni who was still sleeping. He checked to make sure the throat was still doing ok and it was.

"Loki I'm going to be there for Koni when he wakes up. You two stay here ok?" "I'll do it Akela. You need as much rest as you can since you look after Zuri a lot." "Uh ok I'll stay here with Kane then." "Good." Then Loki left and I stayed with Kane. "Are you hungry Kane?" "No I'm ok mom. You can go ahead if you are. I'm worried about brother." "Oh sweetie. You have to eat weather you are worried or not. How about this lets make some porridge ok? How does that sound?" "I'll try mom." Then I went and made the porridge and waited until it cooled then served it for us. "This should help both of us. I didn't feel like eating either but knew I had too." As we ate our food I asked. "Hey Kane. Do you want an older sister or another younger one." "I don't mind either way. But if I had to choose I already have a baby sister so having an older one wouldn't be bad." "Ok I will talk to your dad about it when you little sister gets about 3 years old at least." "Its ok mom. No rush."

After awhile Loki came back. "How is Koni dad?" "Oh he just woke up. Did you two get some sleep?" "Yes I got about 2 hours of sleep Loki." "Good what about you Kane?" "I got about the same as mom." "Good. You two can go ahead and visit him. I'm tired." "Oh there is some leftover porridge you can heat up." "Thanks Akela." "Sure no problem." As we were walking I said, "You know Kane. Your Dad was an orphan as well. He was moms nephew so it was her little sister that died with her husband. The elder of where grandma lives took him in and raised him. I still don't know the details after all these years of being with him. When he is ready to talk I will bring you and Koni to come listen ok?" "OK thanks mom." I already told him about my situation. We finally got to Koni's room.

"Hello brother." Said Kane. "Hi brother." "Hey your talking. I hate to say this but don't talk so much. You need to heal first." "How you feeling?" I said. He wrote down what he had to say. He wrote "It hurts. I be fine soon. I go home 2 days." "Yes the doctor told us. I'm sure they told your dad as well. I assume he will write a letter back to grandma and let her know." "Did you say anything to your dad?" Then he wrote down "Yes I said Daddy I love you. Then daddy cried." "Aww Koni. I bet that made his day." Then Koni tried to speak again. "I love you too mommy and brother. Ow." "Its ok don't talk brother. We love you too." Then it was my turn to cry. Then we visited a bit and he wrote down what he had to say

2 days later he was able to go home. As long as he didn't talk to much he was going to be fine. We said good bye and headed out. We made it home just fine. Koni went back to the normal things he did when he first came here. Loki went over to get the baby. "Ok boys once Koni is better and your father is at work we will spend a lot of time and grandma's house so you can get used to your aunts and uncles. We will still visit grandpa Orion Once in awhile but mom has a bigger family and if anything happens to me or dad which it won't anytime soon that we plan on ok? So don't worry. Then you will have a big family to watch over you boys I also need you to protect your sister ok?" "Yes mom." Kane understood. Kane helped Koni understand cause he looked sad. Then Loki came back in with the baby. "Hey Honey I'm home. Zuri wants to see her mommy and big brothers." I went over and got the baby from Loki. "Get some rest honey. You look tired." "Yeah I think I'll do that. Thanks Akela." Then I held the baby for a bit then Kane wanted to hold her. "Ok Kane. Sit on the couch and get comfortable. Which side do you want her head to be?" He pointed to his right. "Ok there you go." He sat in the middle so Koni can join him as well. Koni poked Zuri's cheek. "Hehe soft and squishy isn't it Koni?" Then he nodded. He wrote something down. It said "When can I talk again mommy?" "Oh honey after about 2 weeks we can go see the doc here again and ask him ok?" Then Koni nodded. "Once Koni starts talking after awhile you 2 will be going to school. You will be training with your uncle after you do your homework ok? He will come by here and spar out in the back ok?" "Yes mom." Said Kane. "Ok I already got your school stuff we just have to wait until Koni gets better." "Ok mom." I said. "Mom she has green eyes." "Yes she does which is rare. Babies usually don't have a color until they get older about a year maybe younger. She must of got it from mom's twin." "Grandma has a twin sister?" "Oh yeah you don't know about her. Her name is Frostine. She works at the highschool as a teacher." "I will take you to see her when Koni is better ok?" "Ok mom."

There was a Knock on their door. (knock Knock.) "Ok be careful with the baby ok?" "Yeah mom." She got the door and it was Aunt Frostine. "Oh Hi Auntie we were just talking about you. Come on in. I want you to meet my sons and daughter." "Oh you took in a couple orphans huh?" "Yeah and I plan on getting another daughter too. Since we decided not to have anymore after that scary situation." "Yeah that's a good idea. Is this the little one?" "Yes her name is Zuri moms middle name. Zuri Grace." "Oh beautiful name. May I hold her?" "Yes sure." "Ok boys let Auntie Frostine hold her ok?" They let frostine take her. "Boys this is your Auntie Frostine. Your mom's twin. Kane do you want to introduce yourself and your brother?" "Yes mom." "I'm Kane. I'm 5. This Is Koni he just had surgery. He can talk but he shouldn't until he heals." "Well nice to meet you boys. Is Koni the same age as you Kane?" "Yes he is." Then Koni wrote something. Hello Auntie. You look the same as mom." "Hehe yes. We are identical twins except for our eyes. I see your little sister has my eyes after all. Its rare though babies aren't supposed to have color until a little older." Then Loki came out. "Oh hey Frostine. Long time no see." "Oh hey Loki. Congratulations on your little girl." "Thanks auntie." "You have some polite boys here." "Yeah they are. Did Kane tell you Koni's situation?" "Yeah he just had surgery." "Yeah he got sick and when he got better his voice never came back. His parents abandoned him at the orphanage." "Poor boy. I would never do that to my kid. I will do what I can to help them." "You have some good parents here Koni and Kane. So don't give them a hard time ok?" "Ok Auntie." Said Kane. Koni nodded. "Oh auntie when Koni is better can they meet your two kids?" "Of curse they can. They are 2 years older than them anyway. I have twin boys." "Cool!" said Kane. "Ok boys why don't you go play outside for a bit. Kane make sure he doesn't talk ok?" "Yes mom." So they ran out to play for a bit while Loki me and auntie visited.

"Did you stop by and see mom?" "Yes I did before I came here. I saw your father too. I can't believe he is alive!" "I know. I was scared it was only a dream. When I woke up he was still there." "I would think the same if our father was still alive." "Anyway here is your little one. How are you feeling?" "Oh I'm fine. Koni is the one who has a sore voicebox at the moment. He told me he loved me in the hospital. He said he loved me and his brother. He wrote that he told Loki as well. He called him dad of course." "Aww how sweet." "Loki he also told me you cried." "Hey he didn't have to mention that." "It was the first time I was called dad by a child. Of course I would be touched." "Aww Loki is so sensitive." I said. "Hey now. I am when it comes to things like that. Let me have Zuri. I want to hold her for a little bit." "Ok here you go my sensitive man." "Ok enough crybaby. I know for a fact you cried." "Hey I'm a woman its normal." "Haha ok you two talk I will be in the room."

After awhile Auntie left and it was just us 5. "OK boys! Dinner time!" Since Koni shouldn't have hot stuff yet I got him a cold dinner which was easy on the throat. So soft foods like pasta stuff and soups. I made him a cold pasta dish. We went ahead and ate.

2 weeks later it was time to see the doc for a checkup. The doc checked him out and said, "Well everything feels ok I can tell it's a little tender still. He will be able to talk but don't yell or talk loud yet Just talk in a normal voice. Koni lets hear you say something. "Hi-Hi Doctor. Thank you." "Ok good. A little stutter is to be expected until he gets better." We got home and he continued to eat cold stuff. Cold veggies fruits.

Finally after the last check up he can talk normally now. He was so excited he talked a lot to his baby sister. Then I saw that I said, "Ok Koni. Don't talk Zuri's ear off now that you can talk ok. Even though you are better you might want to take it easy a few days." "Ok mommy." "Oh Loki today is the day that Kane goes to training with dad's brother." "Oh is that so? Well then. Ok Kane. Beat the man up for us would you?" "Of course. Thought I don't know why but of course I will."

Then I left to take Kane over to uncles. "Uncle here he is. I'm dropping him off." "Ok then. I will make sure I don't beat him up so bad." "Hehe actually uncle Loki and Kane sparred and he beat Loki up. I'm afraid its you who have to be careful." "Haha ok ok. Go home I'll take care of the kiddo." "Ok bye mom." "Bye Kane."

I got back home and Loki was teaching Koni how to read. "Hello boys." "Hi mommy. Dad is teaching me to read." "Yeah he is doing pretty good. Quick learner." "OK I'm going to go read. You two have fun."

A couple of hours later uncle came back with Kane. "I'm back Akela and Loki." Said Kira. "Haha you look beat up uncle Kira." "Shut up. He is a strong kid." "I'm sure Akela told you that Kane and I had a sparring match." "Yeah she did." "Hang on uncle Kira. Let me get something for your cheek." I got some ice for him to put on his cheek. "You didn't get hurt did you Kane?" "No mom. Uncle was strong but I was stronger." "Ok its final." Said Loki. "I dub you official protector of your sister Zuri. If anyone wants to hurt her you protect her got it?" said Loki. "Yes dad. Haha." Laughed Kane.
