Erin stared, absent mindedly at the television while sitting comfortably on the leather sofa in the hall. stroking his sisters soft, wavy black hair as she rested on his lap. her head firmly planted on his laps, snuggling in the warm of her blanket.
' wake up sleepy head, its already mid afternoon' Erin said for about the tenth time while shaking her but she would only brush him of and go back to sleep. he sighed, before gluing his eyes back on the fairly large screen seated on a counter a couple feet away. his mother had gone to retrieve her long awaited salary and would not be back until probably later in the evening. ordinarily, at this time Erin would have already snuck out but since it was only the two of them in the house, he could not do so. his sister wouldn't also give him room to leave her alone even in her sleep. she would always briefly wake up after sleeping, looking around for him if she did not see him. it proved to be a hindrance to his plans since he had tried on multiple occasions to see if she was asleep in order to leave.
' guess I have no choice in the matter' Erin thought.
he had already looked over his stats about a hundred times now, looking for something interesting to keep him awake. the two extra stat points he had were tempting but he managed to stop himself from using it. currently, he had figured somethings out. his intelligence stat was actually quiet high. a person who had just awakened would have their stats between 5 and 15 but his exceeded that. only in terms of intelligence though. was it due to his knowledge, or his special privileges as the system broker? he did not know.
Trying to answer these questions only brought up more questions and trying to solve those in turn brought about a barrage f question. all draining and taxing to think about. he had just shut down for now. waiting until sleep took over him.
He was about to doze of when something he heard caught his attention. on the screen, a reporter was interviewing some adventurers who had come across a new species of monster, a very rare occurrence indeed. up until that point, they had only been reporting same old bland news. gates appearing in a city or rankings of the months adventurers. a platform on many news sites where the most popular adventures were ranked in skill and fandom as well as beauty. Erin had lost interest in such things quiet a while ago and was bored at the moment. the only thing that kept him on the news channel was because of the chance that something huge could occur. something like this.
in the world of gates, dungeons and monsters, human kind had quickly risen back on top after their first appearance. after the chaos and the near extinction event that had occurred about twenty years ago. a time where s rank dungeons or higher would casually appear and bring ruin to cities and countries. times like those were disappearing and the dungeon appearance rate was slowing as well. however, a feeling that the world was about to flip again had already formed in the minds of most. Erin was no exclusion.
through out the subsequent years that followed, the monsters that appeared would be seemingly recycled. the term, season applied to when a certain specific species or a group of monsters would be more common in gates that formed at a specific time. these seasons used to happen irregularly but they would always build up a pattern before, they were erased. it would always start with a new breed of monster appearing and other similar cases would soon follow. Different rarities of treasure that the world would had never seen before were no exception. in all the times these things happened, just like the precursor to a sickness, the world would later be turned on its head. No one would be spared from the dangers of the new unknowns that lurked in the shadows of this time period. It was not only destruction though. This was the most lucrative time for powerful adventurers who would monopolize on the new resources and advance further than ever before. Erin had a planned to be one of those adventurers when the time came.
His lackadaisical form of watching the tv had turn ridged and focused. Not allowing the sleepiness he felt to win over him. the reporter was giving a speech based on what they had collected earlier.
' it's rare for an amber class beast to appear in a regular beast A class dungeon but its even rarer if its not the dungeon boss. the chances are astronomically low that there would be a dungeon collision. a case where a dungeon has more than one species of monster. the info we have collected info from the surviving teams of the a rank dungeon race suggests that a beast like that akin to a chimera has appeared. a mythological species of beast described to be a mixture of different beasts. having the strength to challenge a beast of s class origins. an amber class chimera has appeared, have we crossed the threshold or just have seen it. '
Erin's expectations on what they would have said had been surpassed. he knew about the a rank expedition that had lasted over a week but the damage he had seen so far was too great. some of the top A-rank guilds had participated in this joint expedition and even a rising star whose toes was already in the s-class ranking had been sent over, Jim Allen. according to the female reporter who took over, less than one-third of the thirty-three man guild had returned. all badly bruised and not willing to say past what they had seen. Jim seemed to have suffered the worst apparently. he lost some organs in the fight and his life as an adventurer might have come to a close.
just because of the amber class chimera. amber classes were the grades for beast or artifacts close to the S-rank scale. it was only impossible for an A rank to defeat an amber rank beast if he or she was a limit breaker. a secondary job class given to a rare few who could invalidate the measurement and limits of their abilities by the system. even then it would be extremely risky. Jim, was one of those and the injury he had suffered was no joke. the deadliest thing about amber classes was that they could enter a state of temporary evolution in order to kill their opponents. Erin only knew the very basics on amber classes since his knowledge was vey limited but even that was enough to make him unknowingly shiver. He wanted to do something but nothing came to mind and his sister just could not let him. his knowledge did not help him in anyway. the beast was far above the C-grade and so all of his attempts at finding anything on it was futile.
Their city, regalia, north of the adventurer citadel akela was in danger. five years of peace could be instantly wiped out by a single S-rank dungeon. The world was not the same anymore, after the destruction that had occurred, the remnants of the countries had completely changed. It was now immersed in its new state and the old had gone to rest. Countries changed their names and assumed different identities. a single city could be the powerhouse that shifted the balance, or just a person. He had just awakened and it seemed the world had already lost its patience. Erin had to find a way to survive in this new world using the knowledge he had acquired, before it was too late.
I have to test out something.
