Chapter 2

I have only figured out three things since I've been alive. First, my name is Scarlett Mae, I live in the northern region of Nox Sanguis Kingdom, and my family adores me. My father, who is famous for winning the Great battle of the East with his strategies, is the sweetest person I ever met. Maybe it is because of the guilt he feels. My mother is the most beautiful person I've ever laid eyes on, she had to have many suitors lined up to take her in. It seemed like my mother and father have a good relationship.

" So pumpkin, when would you like to hold your celebration? " A warm hand is placed on top of mine. Mother's eyes look like they might lose me at any moment. The guilt starts to set in because I still feel as if I took their real daughter away from them.

" I was thinking about that. Maybe it would be better not to throw one. " A party would be interesting to go to since I have never been to a grand one, well with this body. I would feel even worse if we threw this party for someone who took over their daughter's body.

" But honey, I thought you always wanted to go to one." Farther now looks worried as he puts down his fork. I wonder if I should ask for something else. I don't even think my little body is ready for a party. I don't even think this body is even in its teens.

" I do not think I am ready for parties yet farther. Instead of a party, how about we do something as a family? It's been a while since I have been outside. Could we go for a picnic?" I play with my fingers nervously hoping that they don't get suspicious of me. I could feel both my parents' eyes on me, making me move in my seat as I looked down at my hands.

" Of course Scarlett. We only said that idea because we thought you would like it. We can go on a picnic tomorrow evening when your brothers get back. I think they would like the idea too." Mother smiles at making me smile back. I look at farther and he looks... worried? Mother puts a hand on him, he relaxes a little then looks at me and smiles.

"Sir, I hate to interrupt but the package you asked for has arrived." Father's face lights up and looks at me. Why is he looking at me like that? Don't tell me he got something already.

" Please bring it in here, please. " The butler shakes his head and goes out of the room. I look at my mother and she shrugs her shoulders smiling. A small smile appears on my face, making me giggle.

" What are you guy's smiling about? " A soft meow appears and I look over my shoulder and see a white kitten. " You got me a cat!" I stand up quickly and walk to father hugging him.

"Not just any cat honey. This creature right here is what we call a winter lion. They can be bigger than a horse and will also be your lifetime friend. You just have to take care of him. " Father hugs me back softly, I hug my mother too and quickly run to the cat. It's asleep and so tiny. The butler hands the small creature to me. I hold it into my arms like a baby, the little creature stirs and big green eyes look into mine making me grin.

" Hello, little one! You're so pretty. What shall I call you? " The little cat stares at me as I sit there thinking. " What about Axel?" The cat scrunches its nose. " No? Yea Axel is too common... hmmm, how about Frostbite! " His ears perk up, a loud meow follows with it making me smile. " Then we have it! Frostbite!"

" That is a unique name. " A deep voice comes from the hallway making all of us turn our heads. A tall figure walks through the doorway. A man that looks like a mother but has his father's expressions.

" Damon, we didn't expect to see each other until tomorrow. How did you get here so fast? " This must be one of my brothers. I never had any siblings in my past. Should I greet him or sit there silently? I feel option two is better until I am spoken to.

" I made one of the people we captured give me their portal crystals. That's something we also have to talk about in the study. We caught a lot of lowly thieves with portal crystals. Makes me wonder where they got all those crystals." Farther shakes his head and turns to look at me. My eyes are staring at frostbite, not wanting to make eye contact with this so-called Damon.

" Aren't you going to greet your brother? He came a long way to see you." My eyes slowly look up at Damon. I look around the room and then back at Damon. He is staring at me with no expression, making me wonder if he even cared for Scarlett at all because he didn't even look at me when he walked into the room. Maybe if I just smile and say hello they will let me leave the table.

" Hello, brother, glad to see that you are home and doing well. " I quickly turn my head away from him and step out of my chair. I get close to him and hug him. I go to walk away but he hugs me back in a death grip.

" I'm glad you're okay. You acted like you didn't know who I was." That's because I don't. I feel him kiss the top of my head making me smile a little.

" I could never forget you brother! " I kiss his cheek and put on a big smile. His eyes got big and his mouth hung open a little. Don't tell them that was the wrong move. I quickly scurry away from him and grab Frostbite, I bow and look at my parents smiling.

" I think I will go to sleep now! I'm really tired." Before they could say goodnight I left. I make it out into the hallway taking a big breath. " This lying, I feel so guilty. " I sit on the ground and start crying hard. This poor family thinks they have their daughter back.

" If you must know little one, you saved that family. " My head snaps up, looking all around me to see no one. I hear a slight chuckle and it makes me stand up.

" Is that you, my lord? " He hums softly and I feel someone wipe my cheek. How he wiping my cheek if he is not even visible to me.

" Yes, it is, please do not cry. I should have told you before I left. That little girl was dying slowly. She had major brain damage. You saved this family by giving your soul to that little girl." I feel his cold hand pat my head. " You are such a strong little one, you held back your tears that whole time. Remember, never show people your weakness unless it's someone you trust. I have to go now, but I will see you again soon. " I feel a cold kiss on my forehead making me feel strangely at peace. " We will have to talk about controlling your powers and why you're so special in the world. "

"Thank you." My voice quivers as I feel his cold hand gone. I hear the door open from the dining room and I see my parents come out.

" I knew something wasn't right!" The mother quickly comes to me and holds my hands. She watches me as the tears pour down my face. " Was it wrong honey? You can tell me, dear." I feel Frostbite lick the tears off my cheek. I can't help but smile and look at my family.

" I'm just so happy that I woke up to such a great family." I see my mother start to cry and she embraces me, making me cry more. Thank you, Lord, thank you so much for telling me. I will make sure I will be the best daughter for this family. I feel another body hug me and my mother making me turn and hug farther. That night I cried so hard that I fell asleep.

But that would be the only night I would cry.
