You, Me, Today (2)

Chapter 5

[After Yuna and Leo finished their preparations, they went outside. They realized it was much colder than they could have expected, Yuna was still shivering from the cold. Eventually, Leo noticed and put his scarf into Yuna and wrapped it around her]

Yuna was surprised by this action from Leo, "You seem to be in a good mood today? That's very unusual of you to do kind things? I mean, you're a very kind person. But you don't show it physically that often," Yuna smiled widely.

"It's even more unusual of you to notice such small details," Leo warms his hands constantly, ``"And I'm also used to the cold. When I left school to pursue a job. I spent 2 nights outside in the cold before I found my place. And then eventually found the job I was working on before I transferred."

"Where are we headed to, anyway? Have any plans.?

Leo firmly said, " I don't know either. Where do you want to go? Pick a place, I'll treat you. To return my favor to you."

"Aha! If that's the case I bet there's no limit."

"No way! There's a limit. I'm not a millionaire, you know? I can't afford every place so just pick a simple one. It'll be better if it doesn't need any cash," Leo casually grinned.

"Don't worry, I'm not that kind of person. It's not like you don't know me for 12 years now."

"I actually don't, it's been just a couple of months back since we started interacting with each other again," Leo looked up and thought of it.

"Oh well, that'll mean we just need to hang out more often."

"Can't, no time. Must work, must study, and more."

Yuna laughs, "you sound like a robot."

Leo sarcastically imitates Yuna's laugh, "laugh all day long. I wouldn't mind, so where to go now?"

"The park."

"The park?"

"Yeah," Yuna firmly said.

"Sure."

[Leo and Yuna went to the park and just played around for a bit, they eventually sat down to rest for a while. It was very awkwardly silent between the two of them.]

"Uhm, Leo? Can I ask you a question?" Yuna asked awkwardly.

"Y-....Ye-....yeah, sure. What is it? Need something? You look troubled."

"Why did you have the picture of us from a few years back? I'm just curious. Don't worry, I didn't dig for it. It was just out in the open and you also let me say it anyway," Yuna asked politely.

Leo barely saw Yuna at the end of his vision, "It's just a remembrance. Come on," Leo tapped Yuna with his elbow, ` "we're friends, aren't we? Whether you see me that way too or not I don't care. You're a nuisance nevertheless," Leo laughed sarcastically," moved you didn't it?"

Yuna sarcastically laughed back, "Of course not. That's like such a lame thing coming from a guy like you."

[Leo stood up and reached for Yuna's hand to help her stand up as well.]

"Follow me, and don't ask a thing about where we are going," Yuna declared.

"Fine, whatever."

[The two of them went to the train station and rode on the train. They stopped and got off, they headed to a mall nearby. They went inside and just roamed for a little while. They eventually stopped in front of a bookstore. Yuna went inside and Leo followed. Yuna ran softly and Leo kept following. Yuna teased Leo for a while, appearing from corner to corner. And then eventually Yuna stopped and just waited for Leo to catch up to her. Then she accidentally slaps a hard book on Leo's face]

Leo was visibly in pain, and his face turned red, "AH! God! That hurts. Can you at least be careful, I thought my eyes were gonna drop."

Yuna was shocked, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to do it that hard. You are literally red now, I didn't know this book was hard."

"Ah, fine whatever. I'm fine, it's just a slap. I've been through the worst," Leo rubs the pain off. walks outside the bookstore and Yuna follows him.

[While the two of them were walking around the mall, someone called for Leo.]

"Leo!" The person approached him.

"Who are you? Do I know you?" Leo asked

"It's me, Jenna. It's been a while! How have you been?" She said while catching her breath.

"Oh, Jenna. It has been a while. I've been well, you?"

"I've been through better days," Jenna replied, `"Who's this girl? Oh, am I interrupting your date? My bad. Is she your girlfriend?"

"NO!" Both Yuna and Leo said.

"I'm just accompanying Leo, and this was where he brought me."

"That's great! You're much of a human now Leo, you're honestly been cold for a long time." Jenna cheekily laughs.

"I guess so, what are you doing here, anyway?"

"I just happened to stop by, I was looking for something."

"Why don't we all go somewhere? Let's go find a bench somewhere," Yuna interrupted.

"Sure thing," Leo briefly said.

[They went outside and found an empty round table with 3 seats, they all sat down.]

"I didn't know you were more human than I thought," Yuna whispered.

Leo was shocked and moved his head away, "of course I am."

"What are you guys talking about," Jenna jumped in.

"Nothing, I just asked Yuna a question about what to do,"

[30 minutes have passed, and they are all just talking. It was already 1:30 and Leo seemed worn out since he isn't used to being outdoors for a long time. Then Suddenly, someone texted him.]

Leo grabs his phone from the pocket of his jacket and reads the text saying," Mr. Kise, this is Jack, your supervisor from the Accountancy Department. We need you at the office in 20 minutes."

"What was it?" Yuna asked.

Leo stood up, "I need to go now. I need to be at the office in 20 minutes. Yuna, you're coming with me? Jenna, I'm really sorry but this is urgent."

Yuna stood up and looked at Jenna, "We're really sorry."

"Oh no, don't sweat it guys. It's fine just go, I'm also waiting for some friends of mine anyways," Jenna replied.

[Leo hurried to the bus station, and Yuna was just beside him. They hopped on and just waited to arrive at the office.]

"What's with the out of nowhere request? I wonder," Yuna said silently.

Leo heard what Yuna said, "I don't know either. But I think it's just of the two. Good news or bad news, just those two.

Yuna was surprised, Leo even heard what she said, when she said it very silently, she looked at Leo, " it'll be fine. I bet it's good news with some bad news. But I'm definitely sure it'll be good."

[They arrived at the bus station and walked fast to the office. When they arrived, Leo was greeted by his superior, Jack]

Jack and Leo head off to go to their respective accountancy department's floor and Yuna is left behind. ``"I'm glad you made it Leo. I'm sorry to interrupt your day, but this was an urgent announcement for you. First things first, I'm bringing you the news that for the next month you'll be working overtime up until 10 PM," said Jack.

"Uhm, ok? But can I know why?"

"This is the time of the year where a lot of clients tend to appear from corner to corner. Since the company handles a couple of big projects and a lot of small ones, a lot of reports and data come in and out. And this is also the time of the year where the accountancy department has a lot of stress. There are also urgent requests for computations on projects and their deadline for tomorrow, but we lacked manpower, so I texted you. And this is also where we need to cautiously manage the budgets. And our job is to make sure that there's enough allotment for every single thing necessary, such as manpower, materials, heavy equipment, and such.

"I get it now. I better get started since it will be a long stretch," Leo concernedly said.

"You really should, it's gonna be a long night for our department."

["Wait! I forgot to say goodbye to Yuna, I should probably call her. She's probably thinking about waiting until my work is finished. I bet that's what she's thinking right now. That silly girl.]

Leo picks up his phone and calls Yuna, `"Yuna! I'm sorry I couldn't get to say goodbye. You should definitely head home now, my work finishes at 10. I bet you're thinking of waiting for me, I may think of you as a nuisance but I'm still human to think about you."

Yuna chuckles, "You caught me, but I'm just waiting for Sir Ben now to pick me up. I'm already tired since I couldn't sleep last night in that sturdy bed of yours," she responded coldly.

"Sure sure, I told you it wasn't comfortable as well, but anyway, I'll just see you at school tomorrow. Rest well," Leo softly said while smiling on the other end forgetting he was just in a call.

[Yuna hung up, and Leo was surprised since he forgot he was just in a call through his phone. Leo worked non-stop for the day. He did one computation after another. Filing his finished computations one after another. He works at a pace that his work is perfectly balanced, in a way that when he finishes enough, he gets another pile to compute. The height of the finished and unfinished ones appears to be equal to each other every time. After a couple of hours, he took a pause. He asked his boss for a break and just told him he's gonna grab a drink. He was just grabbing his drink from the vending machine when his boss, Jack approached.]

Jack leaned on the wall, "you are tired aren't you, kid? I'm sure you'll get used to it," `` his boss approached him and shrugged his left shoulder, ``" you already did a lot of work. Maybe it was around 18 documents in just a few hours. If you are tired just go home and rest, we'll be fine for today. But just be on time for tomorrow like always," Jack slowly walks back into their room.

Leo finished his drink and crushed the can. He went back to the room and told his boss, " don't worry boss, I'll last through the night. I'm trying to just pass time anyway. We got this! It'll continue for a month, right? Not adjusting now will be bad for the long term after all," he firmly stated.

[Leo pinches his face to wake himself even more. He continues his work until 10. He finished 10 more calculations. When he was about to go home, he thought maybe he could do even more work for the night, since he is worked up. His boss approached him.]

"Hey! Go home. It's already late enough, no need for even more overtime."

Leo looked up and responded, "I'll be alright, boss. And I'm also scared to go home now. It's very late, I'll just wake up early and then go home."

"I can just give you a ride if you want," Jack responded.

"No need, no need. I'll be fine, boss," Leo said back with confidence.

"Ok ok," Jack said while laughing with concern, scratching behind his head.

[Leo stayed up for the rest of the night. And did more computations until the coffee he drank was worn out. He just slept on his desk until the next morning.]
