When I got hit by a truck, I thought that it is all over for me. Never in my past 19 years of existence did I thought that I will die young.
There was so much more that I wanted to do before kicking the bucket – like going to college, getting a boyfriend, messaging my ideas to the author, but my biggest regret would definitely be leaving behind my family.
I wish I could do something else instead of just floating in this ocean of darkness. I'm getting so bored here.
Shouldn't I already be in heaven or something by now? No, I don't deserve a place in heaven. My mind is too sinful for that. Guess, I'll just say Satan when I meet him. Hell seems more appropriate for me anyway.
"Hello, there child."
My not so peaceful time of floating in oblivion came to an end when I heard someone say those words.
Wait! Who's voice is that? Have I been in this place for such a long time that now I'm hallucinating voices?
Wasn't I supposed to be dead? Honestly, I don't even know what's happening anymore.
"I can very much assure you that you're not hearing voices that don't exist," the voice spoke up again.
"Who are you? I thought I was the only one here?" I asked out in confusion.
"Well, you may be the only one, but that's not true," the voice said. "There are millions of wandering souls here like you are waiting for their judgment."
"Okay," my voice trailed off. "So, who are you again?"
"Stupid child! Why haven't you recognized me yet?" The voice let out in an annoyed manner.
"So...will you tell me your name now?" I asked. I was pretty sure that I was giving them a cheeky smile.
The voice scoffed in annoyance and said, "I'm the God of Death."
"And..." I pressed for further information.
"Our department usually oversees and keeps track of all the deaths and after-life judgment of humans," he, the God of Death said.
"So, will I be receiving any judgment too?" I asked.
"Actually," the God of Death trailed off, "you weren't supposed to die."
"What?" I couldn't help but let out in anger. "What do you mean by that?"
"Well, as I said earlier," the God of Death continued. "The other person was supposed to die today, but you decided to act like a hero and mess with that person's destiny."
"So, what did you expect me to do? Just stand there and do nothing, like others?" I couldn't help but let out in anger. This God of Death is seriously getting on my last nerves.
"I don't have any say in that," the Death God dismissed my comments. "Early death was that child's destiny. He was supposed to die young, but you, on the other hand, weren't supposed to die. You were destined to die of old age."
I gave out a defeated sigh.
"At least, he's still alive, right?" I asked hopefully. If he's still alive, then my death won't be in vain.
"Actually, that person you saved – he died the day after you saved him," the God of Death callously replied.
"Listen here, you God of...whatever. I'm just going to call you Chad. You mean to say that my death was for nothing."
"Yes."
"You can't be serious!" I let out in frustration. "Chad, I deserve some compensation."
"Why would I give you compensation?" Chad asked.
"Because I died for nothing, duh."
"That was your fault. No one asked you to jump in," Chad replied.
"You're a narcissistic, Chad," I growled at him in anger. "You ought to give me some kind of relief. I died for God's sake."
"Okay, I will give you a second chance," Chad replied.
"Really? Does that mean that I will be able to return to my family?" I asked hopefully.
"Not really. You can't go back now. That world doesn't have a place for you anymore," Chad answered.
"What do you mean by that?"
"I will send you somewhere else. You will have the chance of living out your entire life in that new world," Chad replied.
"But..."
"No buts. That's my last offer," Chad said.
"Fine, I'll take," I sighed tiredly, "but you have to promise me that you will take care of my real family."
"Deal," Chad instantly agreed.
"Fine, let's go then," I mentally prepared myself for the ultimate thing.
"Okay, I'll see you when you die again kid," Chad replied. "I hope you enjoy your new life."
"Goodbye Chad."
