The time was still going on his ring so he quickly put his hand on the chest to get it to open. A silver chest was great but a silver chest under the effects of double luck was going to be awesome. He watched the time on his ring as well as the countdown timer on the chest and knew that it was going to be close. As he watched he counted and saw that his luck was going to run out first but then it was almost like the timer on the chest leapt forward and opened under the ring's luck effect. He knew that it was the effect of the luck so he would not complain. He was amazed that there were multiple items with a blue glow in the chest. He was loving this luck. He did not take the time to go through them he simply put it all in his inventory so that he could harvest all of the bears in the area before he went back. As soon as he stepped out of cave the notification popped up.
[Congratulations on the first kill of the Chieftain level Boss Golden Eared Bear. Would you like to announce this to the world?
Yes/No]
Vindictus clicked no, immediately.
[Congratulations to player ***** for being the first player to kill a Chieftain level boss the Golden Eared Bear. For this they will be awarded +100 gold, +5000 reputation in the region and +500 reputation in the world.] This repeated three times and Vindictus hated all three of them.
Vindictus used his ability to call Ursi into his storage space and then quickly went out and started harvesting all of the bears. He used the skill instead of doing it himself because it would not be long and they would disappear and their replacements would spawn.
[Harvester Skill +2]
The boss was a full day but the regular bears was not that long. Once he got through all of them, he jogged back to talk to Fox. Once he started getting closer, he found the birch trees he used to get out of the area and followed their trail back to the house.
Vindictus walked to the front of the house and the head of the giant bear out of his inventory and handed it to Fox. "The bear that you wanted dead is dead."
"Great work young man. Thank you so much for this. You seem like just the right person to be my disciple but after my injury I am not capable of taking on a disciple."
"Master Fox are the clerics not able to do anything about your arm. I have plenty of funds."
"It is not a matter of funds boy; do I look poor to you?"
"No master Fox but a lot of people that chose your lifestyle and live like this do not put a lot of stock in material things and run into issues with people, even the church who does not understand them."
"Well, you are right about that. The problem is that it was an emergency and the healer that treated my arm was not good enough and did not do the things necessary to let me keep the use of my arm. So, the way that the spells of the healers treat wounds this arm is healed."
"Master Fox I have a crazy idea and please tell me if I am out of line but I have this." He pulled the potion out of his inventory. "It is a regeneration potion."
"Are you cr...actually that might work. You are suggesting that you cut my arm off and I drink the potion. It will be extremely painful and it might not work since it might grow it back to this condition since this is considered healed."
"It is only a suggestion and a crazy one at that. But it just might work."
"Wait right here." He got up and walked into the house and came out carrying a small vial. "This is a potion that will knock me out in an instant. It was given to me by the cleric that tried to fix my arm later. But I am going to need you help with it."
"What do you need me to do?"
"You are going to have to tie me down and then cut it off while I am still awake. Then while I am screaming in pain you force the regeneration potion and the knock out potion into me. The regen potion first."
"Are you sure that it what you want me to do?"
"If you are quick enough it will only take a few seconds and then I will not feel it or the regrowth any more. Also, after my arm comes back all the way, this potion will wake me back up." He handed Vindictus another potion as small as the first one. "So do you have the nerve to cut off someone's arm?"
"Let's get you tied up in the right position so that it will be a clean cut. Do you have a weapon that would be better at this than one of my common ones?"
"Grab the sword out of the chest at the foot of my bed. That should be more than sharp enough to do what you need it to do."
Without another word Vindictus tied the man to the table in a way that the last part of usable arm was just off the edge of the table and the rest was braced on the back of a chair. He opened up the first two potions and got ready to use them. He double checked everything and gripped the sword in his right hand. "Are you ready?"
"Yeah, let's go for it."
"I am going to count to three." Vindictus raised the sword above his head. "One, two…" As soon as two came out of his mouth he swung the blade as hard as he could and it sliced cleanly through the arm into the chair that the arm was resting on. Vindictus immediately let go of the sword and grabbed the regen potion and poured it down Fox's throat and held his mouth closed so he had to swallow. As soon as Fox swallowed, Vindictus poured the second potion down and within a second the cabin was in silence. As he watched, the arm started growing back out of the bloody stump. It looked like a normal arm.
While he waited for the arm to grow, he sorted through all of the stuff that he got from the bear and the chest in the cave and was amazed at the sheer quantity of goods that was there not to mention their quality. There was a full stack (1) of arcane iron that was needed in the creation of any item of epic quality and could be used to make a regular item a lot stronger. If he had used it earlier in his creation of the swords, they would have been a lot darker green and maybe even a light blue. There were also rare ingredients and even some high-quality leather that was ready for use and did not need any treatment.
Those were exciting but the dozen skill books and several return scrolls were worth as much as a small house in this game. Unfortunately, there were only a few low-level ones for him and they were skills that were not going to matter soon. But he could sell them or use them to trade for skills that he wanted. He also wanted to try and find a few of the higher-level trap skills that rangers get. They were great for when he was playing by himself and it could also protect him from being PK'd to an extent. But no luck this time. Of course, he did not figure he would be able to find them until he was out of the beginner village anyways but it never hurt to be hopeful.
After he looked through and sorted all of the materials and skills he started going through the equipment. There was a new bow but it was not as strong as the one that he had now so it stayed in his inventory. There were two new staffs that were both at the dark green level and he had a few people that he knew could use them. There were three shields and two swords for guardians along with a pair of heavy steel boots.
As he sorted through the blades, he almost missed a dagger that was in between two swords and the inventory made it look almost like a sword that he had already looked at. This was a little weird since he had never seen a single dagger, they were almost always part of a set for thieves and assassins to use. He would have to keep a close eye on it as for some reason it was so strong that he could not identify it. The same for the sword that was a match to it. He had more than enough money to pay for stuff to be identified. Once he got through all of the weapons, which he knew he could sell it for a lot of gold, he identified all of the recipes and saw a lot of things that he would be giving to the lifestyle part of his guild.
Vindictus was finally finished with sorting his inventory and he saw that the arm had completely regrown and back to the original from not the twisted one it had become. He untied Fox and then poured the last potion in to his mouth. Fox bolted up immediately and looked around. He held out both of his hands and saw that he could hold them both out to the same length. He even let out a few tears of happiness. "I am finally whole again."
