The town of Crazus was pretty big and lively. The people seemed happy and it people seemed to live good lives here.
Kane, Jag, and his 4 Kazaki honor guards were walking to the mayor's house. Kane had dressed up in a decent-looking red robe. It was not too fancy while still making him look well off. Jag wore his iron armor while the guards wore a mix of armor and cloaks.
Kane's group was getting many looks while they walked but he paid them no mind. He would deal with the townspeople at a later date.
They were walking up to the mayor's house now and it looked to be more of a manor than a house. It was fenced off and seemed to have 2 stories. There was also a big statue in front that Kane assumed to be the town founder.
2 town guards who were protecting the gate noticed Kane and his group.
"Sir, are you perhaps the merchant who has a meeting with the mayor tonight?"
Kane nodded.
"Ok, sir then can you please hand over any weapons you have and you may come in."
Kane had a feeling this would happen so he had told his men to hand their weapons to him so he could put them in his inventory space. He would be able to take them out if things went that way but Kane was sure they wouldn't.
"We are unarmed," said Kane.
The guard quickly checked him and his men before beckoning them inside the gate. A well-dressed man who seemed like a butler was waiting for them.
"If you will please follow me good sirs the mayor, captain of the guard, mayor's family, and other important members are waiting for you inside," said the butler before leading Kane and company inside the manor to the dining hall.
Kane was surprised as he did not expect that others would be here. Hopefully, they were just interested in the bandit incident and nothing else. It also seemed weird that he was a dinner guest and reported the incident straight to the mayor.
When Kane entered he saw a beautiful dining hall with a long table filled with good-looking food and surrounded by people. At the head looked to be the mayor with a woman who was probably the mayor's wife and another who looked to be the daughter.
To the right was the Captain of the guard Vern Fullshout and next to him seemed to be an old man in worn robes. A fatter man was sitting to the left with a man with a crooked nose and plate armor.
Kane recognized the symbol on the man in armor and it was clear that he was from the Kokar kingdom. What was a knight from the Kokar kingdom doing here? Kane was annoyed and wary but he will worry about it later. One step at a time after all.
"Welcome sir...?" said the mayor. He was a middle-aged man but seemed to be in good health and had many laugh lines.
"Kane," said Kane.
"Welcome, Sir Kane. It is nice to have newcomers to this town. It was a very impressive feat taking out all those bandits. We can talk about that later though. For now, let's start with introductions and dinner!"
Kane nodded and sat down. Jag stood behind him with his guards.
"Sorry that we have no more seats for your entourage," said the mayor.
"It's fine" responded Kane.
"I am Luth Crazus my family were the founders of the town. Next to me are my wife Allea and my daughter Yia. On your right, we have our resident healer Lo Marblewillow and Captain of the guard Vern Fullshout."
Kane was surprised to see the healer. This man was apparently a mage and could be useful to Kane.
"To the left, we have our town's head merchant Baboo Pillowale. Next to him is our town's esteemed guest Sir Kervad Lama of the Kokar Kingdom."
Kane was right. This man was part of the kingdom that had set its sights on his land.
"It's a pleasure to meet you as I have said before I am Kane Hoth a merchant and this is Jag the head of my guards." Kane motioned behind him to where Jag and the honor guards were.
"Excuse me, Kane?"
Kane looked to see the old healer staring intently behind him.
"Yes sir Lo?"
Everyone was staring strangely at the old man wondering why he had gotten Kane's attention.
"Are those Kakari nomads behind you?"
Kane was shocked. It seemed the man knew about the extinct nomad group. This could make the conversation go very strange.
"Why yes, they are Lo. Why do you ask?"
"I have seen their tattoos in books. Their people were meant to be extinct. Why do you have some as guards?"
Everyone was surprised to hear what Lo said. Why wouldn't they be? It's not every day a group thought destroyed reappeared on the continent.
"Well just because they have not been seen does not mean they do not exist. These men have been with me for their entire lives now. I do not know what you know about them but one thing that should be common knowledge is that they were always a resilient bunch."
"I hope to talk more about this later Sir Kane but for now we must give the table back to the mayor."
"You are right," said Kane. Kane was glad to get off the topic as he had no good excuse for having these nomads with him.
"Cough! Well, that is interesting to hear about your guards Kane. I am also curious but we can save all that for later. Now I would like to discuss the bandits with you" said the mayor.
"What would you like to know mayor?" asked Kane.
