Chapter 75

Kane and company have been on the road for a while now. They decided to make camp for the night. Kellog told him that they should be about halfway to the ratfolk.

After the camp was set up Kane sent scouts out to make sure the area was safe and had others set up dinner.

While Kane was eating a goblin scout came running back.

"Lord! O, Lord! We see humans! Two groups are fighting. One group has wagons and coaches and yummy horses!"

Kane was very interested in what the goblin said. It must have been a merchant caravan. It was. probably being raided by bandits.

"Let's go have a look," said Kane. He got up on a horse and commanded the ten crusaders to follow him. He also had the kobolds sneak around the trees and follow them just in case they needed backup.

Kane also had the goblin scout show him the way to the fight. When they arrived Kane could hear the sounds of steel clashing and cries of battle.

Kane looked and saw a small group of men mostly wearing leather armor led by a man in light iron armor fighting against men in full plated armor. In fact, Kane recognized the knights in plate armor. They were Kokarian knights.

The smaller group was guarding the coaches and seemed to be just holding out against the Kokarians despite being outnumbered.

"Should we head down sir? I would like to join in this fun" said one of the crusaders.

Kane was about to say something when he felt something odd. The caravan should have been weaker but for some reason, he felt that there was more danger coming from the coaches.

"Let's wait," said Kane.

"As you wish sir" responded the crusader.

Now it seemed like the guards were being pushed back by the Kokarian knights and Kane wondered if what he felt was wrong. That's when knights in plate armor jumped out of the coaches and ambushed the Kokarian knights.

Kane could tell these knights were much stronger and the lead knight was an old man who had clearly seen many battles. He had some kind of battle aura that Kane would look into later. It was very interesting but now was not the time.

The new knights swept through their opponents and the battle seemed to change in their favor.

The old man was very skilled and after killing two Kokarian knights he faced what seemed to be the enemy's leader. The other leader was no match for the old man and was easily killed.

The battle soon ended. Kane was glad he did not choose to be impulsive and waited. He could have had a lot of trouble if he had entered the battle.

The strange knights started to clean up and Kane was curious about their origins. He was debating whether he should go over to them or leave. It was also worrisome that such a strong group was so close to his territory.

"What is your purpose here?" asked the old man.

The other knights quickly got in battle stances and looked in Kane's direction.

Kane was shocked. It seemed like this old man could sense Kane and his party. Looks like Kane would have to go and deal with the group.

The crusaders and Kane rode down on their horses to meet the other party. Kane readied himself for the worst just in case.
