Chapter 24

“He no longer has a fever and the incision is healing nicely. There are no signs of infection. The fever can be attributed to overexertion because he hasn’t been doing his exercises and he did them this morning. Having Sean…eh…the boys here probably helped. I wouldn’t rush the infusion. That could do more harm than good. The secretions may cause a fistula when there’s been internal damage. This is outside the bounds of my experience.”

Julio turned to Etienne, although the doctors were in the room. “I need another IV?”

“Not now, but we have to watch you carefully so you don’t develop an abscess. Do your exercises and take your antibiotics on schedule and everything should be fine.”

Julio nodded.

Dr. Ballard redressed the wound. “He can shower as long as he keeps the incision covered in plastic. He is recovering, although progress is slow because there was so much damage. Have Sean come to see him every day and get him up more and walking around. Is he tolerating his diet?”
