“Let’s go back there and see how things are progressing. It will make you feel better if he’s all cleaned up and ready to go home with you.”

A man in a very rumpled raincoat came into the room with Mr. Martin. The other well-dressed gentleman he presumed was Mr. La Marche, Sean’s husband. They must have fucked with my olfactory sense because I smell gardenias over the stench.

“I’m Detective Sergeant Murphy and I’m going to take your statement. Do you mind if I record it? I think with your eyes the way they are it would be easier than having you write it out.”

“No, I don’t mind.” His voice wavered.

Sean came over and patted his hand. “After this, you can shower.”

The detective spoke, “This attack seems very personal. Did you recognize your attackers?”

“I believe I know who they were although not because I could see them. They all wore masks.”

“Who are they?”
