“Kane, please, Mr. Brady was my dad.” That elicited a small sniffle.
“You miss him, don’t you?” Gabriel observed.
“He’s been gone for six years, yet I feel his loss like it was yesterday. We were very close. I depended on him to be my emotional support and sounding board.”
“You have Gabriel now,” Gaspard told him.
That was a lethal look Gabriel just shot Gaspard. He watched as Gaspard’s mouth turned into an O.
“We have to get to work.” Gabriel came over and kissed him on the cheek, called the elevator and then he and Gaspard were gone.
Kane was still trying to process the kiss when Marceau asked, “Have you eaten breakfast yet?”
“No…I was lazy. I just got out of bed. Agnes has already served breakfast.”
Marceau laughed. “I know; you don’t want to put anyone out. Forget that business about putting people out, you’re an honored guest here. Nothing you ask for is putting someone out. Tell me what you want to eat and I’ll call down to Agnes.”
