“You did a good job,” I admitted.
“Don’t I always?” Kate was more big-headed than ever.
“That’s debatable.” I looked at her out of the corner of my eye. “Remember Christmas 2016 when you brought us those horrendous matching jumpers?”
“Those were all the rage back then!” Kate insisted with a flick of her hair.
“All the rage in lunatic land maybe.” I laughed at the memory and how I’d hated that itchy jumper that Kate had made me wear for the entire dinner with her parents. Her brother had made several comments on how we looked like Santa’s little elves, and not in a good way.
“Meow.” Monroe announced her presence then and sauntered in with her large belly swaying from side to side.
“You really need to stop giving her treats off your plate,” Kate pointed out and I realized she was right. Monroe really was beginning to look on the tubby side.
“It’s not fat, is it, Monroe?” I giggled. “It’s just loose muscle.”
