“Where is Dale?”
“He’s meeting us there,” Lee responded and that’s when he produced a small jewellery box from behind his back.
“What’s that?” I asked when he offered it to me.
“Open it and see.” He smiled. His teeth were so perfectly white that they took me by surprise, and all I could do was take the box. The velvet brushed my fingers as I took it and held my breath to pop it open.
“Oh my God!” I gasped when I saw the diamond studded earrings inside.
“To say sorry for having to rush out on you this morning,” he announced.
“I can’t accept these.” I shook my head and tried to hand the box back to him. “They are too much.”
“Nonsense.” Lee shoved my hand away. “You know we are good for them and besides, I saw them in the shop window and knew that I had to get them for you.”
That’s when Kate appeared over my shoulder, looking down into the box. “Wow, nice one, Lee. They’ll finish off her outfit perfectly.”
