Chapter 37

“Have a good day,” Dale told me as he gathered up his clothes.

“We’ll call you later,” Lee promised while he waited for his husband.

I watched them go, feeling my chest aching with longing for them both. It was an odd feeling that I’d felt only a few times in my life, but now it was stronger than ever.

I sat alone for what felt like an eternity before finally picking up the tray of food. Suddenly I wasn’t so hungry, but I forced down the food anyway. The nausea from the night before was still there and I wasn’t so sure anymore that it had been the alcohol. I hadn’t had that much to drink, and I didn’t feel hung over.

After eating and gulping down a glass of orange juice, I climbed from the bed only to hear the doorbell ring. Had they forgotten something?

With a smile on my lips I headed through the apartment to the door and clicked the unlock button. They’d know what to do.
