“I’m so glad you didn’t sleep with him,” she confesses, looking alarmed by my fresh news that I visited Trent’s apartment. “I would be heartbroken to learn that you had sex with him, since he is so lowbrow.”

“Why do you think that?” I inquire, share a solemn tone, and grow uncomfortable by her dislike for the lifeguard, particularly since I like him so much.

“Isn’t it obvious for so many reasons?” She takes a sip of her alcoholic beverage, swallows, and adds, “That man tried to ruin my niece’s life. He was caught receiving oral sex by a male skank. How else am I supposed to feel about him?”

“Please, Barbara, you have to move on. Life is too short to hold grudges.”
