He finally settled on the gym and dressed accordingly in sweats over a tank and workout shorts. When he got downstairs he went into the kitchen, checking to see what he had that might help his hangover. He remembered something he’d read about tomato juice and eggs. Taking both from the fridge, he put three eggs in the blender, added the juice, and then—wincing at the noise from the machine—made his drink. He drank some, put the rest in a coffee mug to take with him, and, after grabbing his bag, he headed to the gym.

Dolan’s was a true gym, not a health or fitness club. Liam Dolan, the owner, had been a professional boxer before giving that up two years ago to open a gym for people who wanted the real thing, not, as he put it, a bunch of yuppie workout machines. It was Jace’s go-to spot when he needed to work on his body and his problems at the same time. The people who went there had one thing in mind and that didn’t include being social.
