Gracie continued to look around. Some of the dogs were far too big - like that one with the long legs, a skinny tail, and pointy ears. No. He’d take up too much room on the bed with her, Bryan, and another human.

How about the big brown and white dog with all the fur who slobbered a lot? No, it would definitely not do. But that small brown dog with the long body and very short legs, that one would be all right. Gracie ran over to it. She greeted it with a wagging tail, sniffing it. It was a girl like her. The long dog lowered its tail and looked away. Gracie wanted to let the dog know she was happy to meet her. So she bowed low, offering to play. She gave a soft woof. The long dog still looked away with its tail down. Gracie gave up and looked for another friend.
