Chapter 11

Caroline chose a table by the front window looking out on the street. Right after ordering, Flora was off and running.

“I feel so terrible about poor Elspeth. It was all so sudden. Don’t know what we’ll all do without her. So efficient and there wasn’t anything she didn’t know. Why the other day I had this question about Victorian furniture and right away—”

Caroline remembered something. Victorian. That’s what it wasElspeth’s dining room furniture. How could someone of Elspeth’s weight and stature mange to drag such a heavy chair into the front room, and then kick it out from under her? I suppose it’s possible still…

Caroline rejoined Flora’s monologue when she mentioned something about letters. “Letters. You said letters.”

“What, dear? Oh, yes, Elspeth got one, and then my dear friend, Holly Armstrong.”

“What kind of letters are you talking about?” Caroline’s interest was definitely piqued.
