“Who else?” Caroline laughed. “She does get around.”
“You don’t think there’s a connection between Elspeth’s letter and—”
“Her suicide? I don’t know. Do you?”
“It’s just notpossible,” Moira said, with a bit more emphasis and confidence than Caroline expected from such a quiet, tentative person. “Elspeth came to the vicarage the day she received it. She had a rather large bruise on her forehead from a fall, and didn’t look well. Garrett walked into the living room for his afternoon tea, and assuming she came here to see him, I offered to leave the room, but she was adamant I stay. She told us she’d received a rather disturbing letter.”
“There must have been some truth to it,” Caroline said.
