Chapter 27

Brody likes that. It implies they’ll still know each other then. He hopes so.

Many of the shops have flyers taped to their windows advertising local events—fundraisers, concerts, runs, festivals. Many of the images on the flyers are from designs Brody drew. He points out a few, and soon Gavin’s spotting his work before he can claim it. “You have a very distinctive style,” Gavin says as they stand in front of a used record store, finishing off their yogurt and studying the flyers plastered to the window. “It’s so realistic. I mean, sometimes I have to look hard to even realize it’s a drawing. You’re thatgood.”

Brody tries to shrug off the complement. “I can draw a little, so what?”

“You’re super talented,” Gavin tells him. “I’m going to keep saying it every chance I get until it sinks into that thick skull of yours.”
