“I like this,” Jennie said. “Our working together. I never felt I was part of a team with you know who.”

“Harold, the errant husband.”

“My soon to be ex-husband, “ Jennie said correcting her, smiling brightly.

“Yes, we can only hope.” Hilary looked over at Jennie and gave her a reassuring wink.

“You don’t think I’m serious, that I won’t follow through and divorce him?”

“You have very good reason, but I think you’re not quite ready.”

“Yes. Guy said the same. He didn’t actually say it in so many words, but I can tell from his questions, and the way he looks at me when I try to explain Harold’s infidelity as—”

“How do you explain it?” Hilary asked. “Normal, part of the bargain you made when he agreed to make you his wife, then held you prisoner of your own illness in that ivory tower?”

“I’m nothis prisoner or anyone else’s. I’m getting better. I’ve been fine here. Haven’t you noticed?”
