I was frantically trying to figure out how to attach the chip to the tongue of the sneaker on my left foot when a strong male hand reached down and moved mine out of the way, finishing the job. When I stood up, Justin faced me, an unreadable expression on his face. I turned every shade of red imaginable.

“So thisis why you’ve been going to the gym,” he said. “Why didn’t you tell me?” A look of hurt passed over his handsome features. Oh, dear.

“I’m sorry, Justin. I didn’t want to say anything because I’m so notan athlete, and you’re just…”

“I’m just what?” he asked, his gaze searching mine. For what, I didn’t know.

“Never mind. Look, I’m really sorry about what happened at the gym on Thursday night. I was embarrassed and I didn’t want to make you uncomfortable, so I split.” There, I said it. Go me.
