I joke around and say, “I hope it’s a rodeo. Guys on horses make me hard.”

He laughs. “What a coincidence. I find that they do the same thing to me.”

I head for the shower and laugh.

All is good now between us, or maybe it’s not. But at least we don’t end up angry at each other for the time being, ruining this weekend, honestly. 13: Cowboy Lust

I can’t fall in love with Corey Cassidy, even if I want to. Men do not lovemen in Kansas. Cowboys are not supposed to fall for cowboys, or city boys for that matter. Bottom line: I can’t ever love Corey. Not this weekend. Not next weekend. Never. I hope he’ll someday understand such a fact, even if his heart breaks.

I don’t tell him this; it’s not what our short time together is supposed to entail. This weekend is to be a reunion between men who were once boys, a revisited connection of time that has been lost, and a means for our relationship to reconnect and grow.
