Chapter 10

“Yes, I know. I just said Em was perfectly competent. I’m kind of OCD about the project, especially with all the shit that’s happened.”

He smiled, obviously amused by my admission. I hadn’t realized before just how green his eyes were. Gawd, he was just hot and I wanted to lean across the table and kiss him. Instead I stood up and walked downstairs to my office to phone Emily.

Salad stuff, sandwich makings, bag of apples, chips, steak and beer all went into the grocery cart. The beer was important. My nerves felt like they were permanently on edge at this point. I wasn’t a list sort of person and I stood in the frozen food section trying to figure out what I forgot. Brendan trailed along beside me, looking improved after coffee and food. When I’d ask him for input, he’d merely said buy whatever I liked, he wasn’t picky.

“I’ve probably forgotten half the stuff I need,” I muttered.

“We can come back tomorrow if needed.”
