Chapter 18

They’d just stepped out from under the roof when another black-clad guard burst through the back door.

“Wait!” he said. “Where are you taking that man?”

Julian spun around in time to see the black guard at the door raise his gun. His heart began to pound. He looked around for a place to take cover as the guard escorting him raised his gun and fired at the guard at the door.

“Run!” said his escort, pulling something from inside his jacket. “Here, put this on.”

It was a narrow ring of metal inlaid with what looked to be diamonds or crystals of some sort. It was very light and gave off a slight vibration.

Both men ran towards the large wire gate at the entrance to the enclosure, but it was chained shut.

“Put it on!” screamed the guard as he reached into the pocket of his trousers and took out a laser.

The sound of a bullet being fired made Julian glance back to see the enclosed area filling with black-clad guards, all raising their weapons.
