Chapter 16

“Jesse, come on.” He has to get in. They have to talk face to face and get it over with.

Still no answer but Trey can hear Jesse breathing on the other side of the door. Jesse might not want to open the door to him but he is not going to leave. He will spend the night here outside Jesse’s door if need be.

Trey settles on the floor, curling and hugging his legs close to his chest.

Dawn has just broken but Jesse has been awake for quite some time. He stirs and stretches, his muscles sore from lying on the hard wooden floor. He knows Trey is still outside his door; has been there throughout the night. Jesse could hear Trey, turning and shifting restlessly on the floor. Many times during the night he had wanted to open the door and let Trey in but he just couldn’t do it. Jesse feels like a whore who returns someone’s kindness with a sexual favor. Jesse doesn’t know if he can ever look Trey in the eye again.
