“It’s absolutely remarkable what these people do,” Benjamin commented as Clarke chauffeured him from one property to another.
Clarke looked at Benjamin and replied, “It’s absolutely remarkable what youare doing, sir.”
There was the hint of a smile on Clarke’s face as he said it, and Benjamin thought he detected something a little more than admiration in his butler’s dark brown eyes.
By the time they had come to the final place on Benjamin’s list they had seen dozens of injured and crippled kangaroos, orphaned joeys, lizards with tails and feet missing, birds with broken wings and even a couple of bats. The sun was sinking closer and closer to the horizon and all three of them were tired. Sasha had been so excited, meeting her various animal cousins, she had almost wagged her tail off. Even more rewarding for Benjamin than donating almost half a million dollars to these various shelters and animal hospitals was seeing how happy Sasha was.
