Chapter 7

“This thing tonight isn’t a date,” I say again. Maybe if I say it enough, I’ll be able to convince myself.

She rubs my arm. “I know it isn’t. But be open to your feelings, for me? I can tell by the way you talk about this guy that you really like him. I think that’s great. It’s about time. So if he likes you, too, and things look to be heading in a good direction, don’t back up or push him away. Think of yourself for once, please. You need someone, you do. More than you know.”

With a half-hearted smile, I admit, “He is kind of cute. Lisa would’ve liked him.”

“See?” Dawn asks. “That right there should be enough to tell you to go for it.”

Go for what, exactly? I’m almost afraid to hope he might be as interested in me as I am in him.
