Chapter 30

As O.B. walked through the lobby, several of his teammates greeted him. He nervously engaged in small talk. All the while he kept glancing at the phone still held tightly in his hand, willing it to ring while at the same time hoping he’d get to the privacy of his room before it did.

When he finally reached his room, Jake Robinson was there, stretched out on one of the beds, watching the evening news.

Crap! How could he have forgotten he had a roommate! He couldn’t talk here. Without saying a word to Jake, he turned to leave.

“O.B.?” Jake called to him as he opened the door.

O.B. turned back.

“Something wrong?”

“Uh, no. Just need to…I forgot to get…uh…need some Tums. Stomach’s upset.”

Shit, that’s smooth, Benson!he told himself.

“I think I got something in my bag, hold on.” Jake got up and walked over to his duffel.

O.B. stood, half in and half out of the room, not knowing what he’d do if Jake came up with something for his imaginary stomachache.
