One thing he did see was a larger than usual wave heading toward him. Knowing he wouldn’t have time to run back to the sand, he decided to jump to avoid most of its swell. He laughed at his foolishness.
There had been another odd aspect to the dream, or rather his waking thoughts surrounding it. He didn’t feel guilty for dreaming about Mitch rather than George. Maybe it was because the man in his dream who John thought of as Mitch had called himself Jack, and John had been addressed as Ben. As he splashed along the seashore, he tried to remember where he’d heard that name before. But then he reasoned it was a common name, one he’d probably heard many times.
