“I can’t believe people used to watch those TV things and couldn’t just pick whatever they wanted,” I said. “I still don’t really get it.”

“Well, from what I learned in college there were several different stations to choose from,” Dad said. “But the broadcast companies chose what time different shows aired. You either had to be home when the show was on or record it, and if you missed the show you had to wait until the next time the company decided to air it.”
