Chapter 27

“Stay.” Alexis grasped Lynn’s hand as their eyes met. “I don’t like the thought of you staying in that house alone. He…There was another victim today.”

“Oh, Alexis,” Lynn pulled Alexis into her arms and held tight. “I’m so sorry.”

“She was so young. When we finally were able to ID her we learned she was just nineteen.” Alexis pulled away and rubbed her forehead. “It’s all such a nightmare. I just…I would feel better if you stayed with us.”

“You’re worried about me,” Lynn tilted her head.

“Yeah, I am.” Alexis smiled when she saw the desire that flickered into Lynn’s eyes. “I should go clean up the kitchen.”

“Already taken care of,” Lynn took Alexis’s hand and led her over to the sofa as they both took a seat. “Why don’t you let me go get you something to drink? It’s the least I can do if I am going to be your house guest again tonight.”

Alexis grinned. “After the day I’ve had, a beer would be perfect. I’ll find us a good movie.”
