“I can give her a message if you’d like. She usually checks in on her place quite often,” he offered with a smile.

“No thanks.” Alexis exhaled as she held tight to Calista’s hand and walked away from the empty house. Lynn was gone and she would probably never see her again. Her thoughts were racing and she wondered if her abrupt change of mind the previous night had been the worst mistake of her life. What if Lynn had genuinely cared about her?

“Mommy.” Calista stopped and looked up at Alexis. “Why didn’t Lynn even say goodbye? Did I do something wrong?”
