“She’s okay. I sent her to wait in the hall for Katie.” Alexis touched Lynn’s bruised cheek, causing her to wince from the pain. “Did he…?”


“N…No,” she replied in a shaky voice. “I’m…okay. A little sore,” she said slowly and forced a smile. “I might need…some TLC.”


Alexis nervously laughed as tears filled her eyes. “I promise I will give you all the TLC you need.” She leaned forward, kissing Lynn’s forehead.


Lynn’s eyes rolled back slightly as she looked at the slumped body. “Is he…?”


Alexis turned, quickly checking the man’s pulse with a shake of her head. “He’s barely breathing. Can you stand,” she asked.


“I think so,” Lynn mumbled. Lynn grasped Alexis’s hand, allowing herself to be pulled up from the floor. She stumbled, falling into Alexis’s arms with a grunt.


“Hang on to me. The ambulance will be here soon to take you to the hospital.”
