Chapter 118

Dayna’s brown eyes had filled with tears. “You don’t want us with you anymore,” she whispered.

“It’s not that. I just don’t want Kevin to keep getting sick.”

“I don’t want him to be sick, either. But we don’t have anywhere else to go.”

Ash put her hands to her forehead, feeling like a weight pressed down on her back and shoulders.

Water splashed at her feet and she looked up to see Kevin standing before her.

“Are you okay?” he asked.

“I don’t know what to do.” She couldn’t help but smile at the solemn expression on his face.

“When we first ran away, Dayna and I thought we should go back. And you told us not to,” he said.

“Yeah, but—”

“I know you don’t want us to go back to Mom and Dad, and we don’t either. We want to be with you and help find Matt because you helped us escape.”
