Chapter 24

“The main one seems to be about a stone of some sort. It sounds like it’s very precious, if you ask me.”

“That would be the same Stone we’re looking for,” Jaelin said.

“Oh?” The Centurion raised one eyebrow, interested. “What exactly makes it so popular?”

“Nothing out of the ordinary,” Airk said dismissively, but his eyes shot daggers at Jaelin.

She shrugged and whispered something to Wray, who turned towards Bucky. “Do you know a man named Staggra?”

Bucky grunted. “Staggra’s no man. He’s a centurion, and an eccentric one at that. He lives out beyond the Village, if you want to call what he does a living. He’s an inventor, or so he says, and he lives with his youngest daughter. What a beauty she is! But they don’t take kindly to strangers and, if you don’t mind my saying,” he pointed his fork at the Baret, “your company’s one of the strangest I’ve seen in years. Take my advice and stay far away from Staggra, if you can help it.”
