They waited in front of the infirmary. Jaelin twisted her hands nervously, tired of waiting. She had to resist the urge to rush to the door and fling it open, demanding Wray’s return.

“Just wait,” Shaela urged. “He’ll be out soon.”

“He better be,” Jaelin muttered.

Just then, the door opened and out strode the Baret. His arm was in a sling, but otherwise he looked fine.

Jaelin rushed to him and hugged him tight. “You survived!”

The Baret laughed and disentangled himself from her. “I have the tendency to do that from time to time.”

Wray greeted everyone in turn. To Dungan, he joked, “It looks like once again you’ve disobeyed my orders.”

The First Commander looked shocked. “Once again? I dare say not, my Lord.”

Wray waved his hand. “I’m kidding. It’s good to see you so soon. I take it King Randel sent you to keep an eye on me?”

Dungan stuttered. “What? My Lord…”
