The outlaw looked at the churning clouds and choppy sea. “I give it a day. If the storm doesn’t break tomorrow, we might be out of harm’s way before it begins. Have you ever been in a hurricane before?”

Shaela shook her head.

“Well,” he drawled, draping an arm around her shoulder, “a hurricane is a terrible storm—worse than the one we encountered in Lynz Bay. Being in the middle of one is bad; being in one at sea is worse. They’re more prevalent here on the eastern coast than elsewhere, so there’s always a risk when traveling to North Muniac. Then again, this is the only sea with…” He mouthed the word. “Pirates!”

She gasped. “What are they like?”

“I just told you.”

She gave him a sideways glance. “I meant the pirates.”

“There’s only one we have to contend with. All others were run out of business long ago. I might’ve mentioned something to you about him once. Captain Skurve.”
