“Make that seven,” Shaela said, remembering Kitt.

“Ten,” Dreux said. When all eyes turned on him, he asked, “We’ll swing by Ellers’ Lea for the others, right?”

Morning found them drooped over their breakfast plates, their tired heads propped up by weary hands as they picked at their food. Although hungry, they were too exhausted to eat much.

“Hi all!” Kitt said brightly as he came to the table.

Shaela roused herself. “Come over here and I’ll get you something to eat.”

Kitt sank into an unoccupied chair beside hers, across the table from the outlaw. “Hi, Airk!” Kitt called. “Airk?”

Placing his dish on the table, Shaela sat beside him. “Leave him be, Kitt. He’ll be happy enough to see you when he wakes up.”

Taking a bite, Kitt asked, “Why’s he so tired?”
