Chapter 66

“Sorry,” came the mumbled reply.

Ahead Gideon stopped. Airk was so intent on watching for danger that he ran into their guide. Shaela caught Kitt as he fell from the outlaw’s back. “What now?” she wanted to know.

Gideon held up a hand. He sniffed the air and glanced around as if looking for something. “Gwinnie?”

Kitt looked at Shaela, puzzled. “Who’s he looking for?”

She replied. “He isn’t altogether here.”

“Then where is he?”

Suddenly Gideon stared out ahead from them. Everyone followed his gaze and saw nothing, but Gideon seemed to be holding a conversation with the air. After a few moments, Airk turned to Shaela. “Ignore him. I do.”

She shot him a withering glance. “I noticed. Or did you run into him on purpose?”

Airk brushed off that remark. “Have the Stones reacted any here?”

Apart from a dull throbbing, she hadn’t noticed anything else from the two Stones. “No. Why do you ask?”

He shrugged. “I thought they might get excited this close.”
