Chapter 29

“About time,” Terry smiled.

“Lack of funds,” I shrugged. “Now I’ve got the promotion, things are a bit easier.”

“How’s it going, the job I mean?” Terry asked.

“Fine. Different from being a librarian in a department, though.”

“You’ll adjust.” Terry smiled. “Got used to all the paper shuffling yet?”

I groaned. “I doubt I ever will. I can’t see the need for half of it.”

Terry laughed. “You’re telling me. I’m glad I’m out of it.”

“Are you and…Mabel enjoying retirement?” I asked, remembering Terry’s wife’s name at the last second.

“He smiled. “It’s great not having to get up early in the morning, and knowing that you don’t have to face a day at work.”

“Must be,” I said. “Well anyway, we were just having a mooch round till we got hungry, then we were going for fish and chips.”

Terry told us where the best places to eat were and we promised to check them out.

After lunch we did a bit more sightseeing. Mark wanted to get a stick of rock to take back home for Daphne.
