Chapter 33

Sam’s eyes widened. “We only have that at home on really special occasions.”

“Can’t think of a more special occasion than saying goodbye to our surrogate son,” Mark said, resting a hand on Sam’s shoulder.

“I’ll miss you two,” Sam said.

“Not half as much as we’ll miss you,” I said. “Though it’s not as if we’ll never see each other again, you only live a couple of doors down.”

“I know, but thanks for making my last night special.” Sam got a glint in his eye. “But look on the bright side, from tomorrow night you’ll be able to chase each other around the house naked.”

My mouth fell open and Mark laughed.

“Sam!” I said, looking around to see if anyone was close enough to have overheard. As no one was giving us weird looks, I guessed we’d been lucky.

“Sorry.” Sam had the good grace to look abashed, but then spoiled the effect by giggling.
