She laughed.

Returning to the topic of our proposed double-date, I said, “And you only get to see Jerry at the weekends. I’d have thought you’d want him all to yourself.”

“I think we’ve gotten past the lovesick, needing to hold on to each other at every moment stage. Don’t get me wrong, I still go weak at the knees just at the thought of him.”

I laughed. Then I began to think about my reaction each time I saw Mark. “I still can’t believe Mark’s real. I imagine I’m going to wake up any minute and it’ll all have been a dream.”

“You silly sod.”

“I know.” I let out a breath and closed my eyes. “As you know I’ve never been very outgoing. I just hope Mark doesn’t get bored with me.” Opening my eyes I told Mary about the nightclub we visited in Leeds. “I hated it and eventually I had to leave.”

“Mark’s totally besotted with you. You’ve no need to worry on that score. Trust me.”

“I know. It’s just my old insecurities playing up again.”
