“It isn’t. I’m out to a few of my colleagues, and the head was great about it. I thought he at least needed to know in case of any trouble. You just have to make sure that you don’t put yourself into a situation where you could be compromised. I mean, don’t be in a room with just one pupil. Or if that can’t be avoided, make sure the door is left open.”

“Wouldn’t that be true for all teachers?” Mark asked.

Cliff nodded. “Oh, yes.”

“Hello chaps, hope you’ve settled in.” Peter, the tour rep, approached. “And I hope you like your room.” This was addressed to Mark and me.

“Yes, thank you,” Mark said, with a note of finality in his voice, basically telling the little shit that he better not continue with this line of conversation.

“Right then. Be seeing you all tomorrow at ten in the main lounge for our little getting to know you session.”

“We’ll be there,” Tom said. His tone implied ‘now push off’.

Peter took the thinly disguised hint and minced away.
