Exactly how they went about the making of junior, Sam had never asked, and those involved hadn’t told. Sam looked into his empty Styrofoam coffee cup and winced at the possibilities.
“Maybe I’ll risk going back in,” Pete said.
“Okay, you know where I am if you need me,” Sam replied.
Pete made for the door, but Billy stopped him and gave him a hug.
“It’ll all be fine, you’ll see.” Billy told him.
Sam knew Billy was telling Pete this just as much for his own benefit as Pete’s.
“Yeah.”
Billy kissed his man’s cheek before letting him go.
“Oh, God, is this what straight fathers go through?” Billy asked no one in particular. But as Sam was the only other person in the room, he guessed the question was aimed at him.
“I’m sure heterosexual men feel exactly what you’re currently feeling.”
“Guess so.” Billy scrubbed at his face. “Oh, God, I’m going to be a daddy. I’m too young, I’m—”
“Try and relax. Beth’s been through this before, even if you haven’t.”
