Chapter 13

“But not a dangerous one,”Leslie said.

“No,”Edward stammered.“Not…dangerous.”

“And of course that’s why you brought your handgun.”

“I always carry a handgun.You know that.”

“Well then, nothing to worry about.”Leslie glanced at his wristwatch.“The way I see it,we’ve been out in the deep blue about an hour and a half.Thank God you came back.I’d have been right done for.”

“And whose fault would that have been?”Edward stubbed out his cigarette.Edward’s hand shook briefly and Leslie took hold of it.

“Not here.”Edward pushed him away.“You can’t—”

“No,of course we can’t.People will see and talk.”

“Don’t pout.This is a fine mess you’ve gotten us into.And quite possibly Caroline and Cyril as well.You don’t know what you’ve done,do you?What we’re dealing with?”

“Whatever it is,it’s not dangerous.I have it on good authority. So where are we headed?”

“You tell me,”Edward said, with a grim expression on his face.
