Chapter 49

Charles was listening to my end of the call and said, “Babe, there’s no way I’m going to use a bedpan once we get home.”

“Probably not, but you might have an urgent call of nature when there’s nobody around to help you to and in the bathroom.”

By the time we’d completed the checkout process and made our way to the appropriate exit, an ambulance was waiting. I gave the driver our address and told him I’d meet them at the house. I turned to John and gave him the best hug I could with only one good arm and said, “Thank you, John. You’ve been more than helpful during this ordeal.”

“Just doing my job.”

“I know, and you do it so well. Anyhow, I know that our boy will be anxiously awaiting your arrival this afternoon, as he’s desperate for that shower.”

“Joe and I will be there by four.”
