Chapter 57

I heard him tell Goodman that we would once again manage to get me back to bed ourselves; then I heard the bedroom door closing as Goodman left. Philip came back into the bathroom and brushed his teeth. Finishing that, he surveyed the bathroom. “I’ll bet the place I rented your wheelchair from can recommend someone to outfit this room with grab rails and things. I told Gran about it last night, and she left it to me to handle.”

“You know, I’ve never seen anyone have Gran wrapped around his little finger the way you seem to.”

“You think so?”

“I know so.”

“She’s just grateful.”

“Grateful?”

“Remember the conversation I told you about?”

“I’d forgotten about that.”

“Have you finished there, or do I need to go in search of another bathroom?”

“All done,” I said, and hit the flush lever.

He walked over to me and helped pull me to my feet. Then he handed me the crutches and said, “Lead on.”
